Do you aspire to become a great web designer? Do you have goals you want to achieve, but are not sure how to go about them because you do not understand how to design a website? If you answered “yes,” then this article is for you. It will help you learn the fundamentals of web page design.
Choose your color scheme wisely. It is important to have text that is easy to read on your chosen background color. Dark text on light backgrounds are typically easier on the eyes than the other way around. If you are uncertain about the effectiveness of your color scheme choice, try it out on a friend and solicit feedback from them.
You should always take time to removed old, irrelevant content. If the page a viewer clicks on is promoting something that happened a year ago, you just lost a reader. Users are careful with their time and if they can tell that your site is not updated often, they will leave. Set up a regular schedule in order to update your content, and eliminate items which aren’t useful anymore.
A good website will never require that a visitor provide the same information more than once. Ensure that personal data for each of your website’s visitors is preserved. When a visitor fills out a registration form on your website, for instance, your site should hang onto that information, and use it to fill out data fields for the visitor on subsequent interactive pages ahead of time. If you use this data to your advantage, users will be able to save time as they navigate your site.
Large sites should always have search capabilities. Put in a search box in the right-hand corner up on top of the homepage, as this allows the site visitors to type in a single keyword that shows up anywhere on your site. FreeFind and Google both offer these search functions to use on your site.
Be certain to have a way to receive feedback from site users. This way, you will know what you’re doing right and wrong and you can fix any problems that your visitors are coming across so others don’t have to deal with the same issues. Allowing visitors to actively participate in your website will make them want to visit again.
Avoid excessive use of pop-up windows. While these might seem valuable in some instances, most people think they are rather annoying. Internet users will be more likely to leave your site and not find it trustworthy if you use pop-ups.
Do not forget to test your site on several major browsers. No two browsers will display your website exactly the same, and some of them could make it more difficult, or even impossible, to use easily. Utilize the Internet by researching which browsers are the most commonly used. Double check that your site works on every browser, and don’t forget about the mobile software as well.
It is a good idea to have an “About Us” page on your site. Add some autobiographical information to share with visitors. Make yours exciting! Try to give people a little look what your personal background looks like, try to show what made you get into web designing, who or what inspired it, and what you would like to achieve with your business.
Learning about website development is a subject that becomes easier the more you work at it. Test out your basic chops with C+ and HTML by building yourself a few simple web pages. You need to practice at some point, so why not begin now?
