Many people are very interested in learning the fundamentals of website creation, but the prospect of doing so can be intimidating. If you feel discouraged by the task, but really want to design sites, then keep reading this article to get a better understanding of what it’s all about.
Remember, frames are a thing of the past and while revisiting past memories can be fun, adding outdated frames will only make your designs appear to be zombies from the world wide web graveyard. While they worked well for the time, they caused many issues for website visitors. Designs on frames can make it hard for people to get your site bookmarked and they won’t like scrolling either. There are easier ways to give seamless flow to your site.
Make sure the combination of colors your site uses is attractive and makes the site easy to read. It is important for the text to be legible when set on the background color you have chosen. In general, you want to use a dark font color and a lighter background. Let some of your friends see your site and give you some advice before going live.
Include an easy way for visitors to search your site content. If visitors are searching for something specific, they should be able to use a search box. When there isn’t one available, they may just decide to try another site where they can find that information. Put the search box near the top right side of the page, since that tends to be common.
Avoid using too many graphics. They are good for making your site more professional, but too much looks messy. Use graphics for improvement, not decoration. Using an adequate amount of graphics keeps clutter away and helps you focus on site usability.
You should update your content and get rid of expired content regularly. If there is content on your page highlighting an event that is already part of past history, your readers are going to abandon you quickly. Internet users want fresh information from updated and maintained sites, and letting stale content stay up screams carelessness on your part. Set a review schedule to update content and remove items that are no longer useful.
Keep the loading time to lower than ten seconds. A good site will come up within a few seconds. Most online users want to be gratified instantly and you need to be sure you can do this for them.
Different topics should not inhabit the same page. Be sure to use different pages if your site includes more than one topic for discussion. This will eliminate visitor confusion and make it easier for search engines to gain a clear and broad view of the site and help you build traffic.
When deciding on a background color for your website, white is a very effective and good choice. Few visitors take issue with a white background, which looks professional or, at worst, neutral. Text content is also more clear on a white background. Colors, patterns or other designs are distracting and don’t have a place on a website. Simple backgrounds are usually a better choice.
It is vital that you are aware of the fact of your need to design your website so that it displays properly on a range of different Internet browsers. Your site may look quite different on different browsers, so don’t be caught unawares! You can find more about which browsers are most in use and focus on them, so hunt down this information. Check your website on every one one of these browsers, and do not forget mobile web browsers that have become popular.
You should feel better about your decision to become a web designer, now that you’ve learned what it entails. The important thing you should keep in mind is that the resources available to you for further improving your web design skills and continuing your education are virtually unlimited. If you abide by what you have learned here, then there is no reason why you cannot succeed in designing a great website.
