Rather than hiring a company to design your site, you should teach yourself how to build sites. If you do this, others will turn to you when they need web design help. Web designing is not that hard to master, even though it may seem so at first. Use these web design tips to see how simple it is.
Use fixed-position navigation. This will make sure the navigation panel is locked in place as your readers move throughout the site. Not only do visitors find this convenient, but so do internet marketers who have calls to action they want in place.
The speed at which your web page loads is an important design factor. Visitors can quickly become impatient and leave your site if it loads too slowly. They will often move on to another site and usually never return to yours.
Avoid using too many graphics. Graphics are essential to make sure your site is pleasing to the eye, but overusing them just clutters the page. Use graphics for improvement, not decoration. Having the right amount of graphics that does not impede on the overall website design is key to how well the site looks.
Don’t let content that is out of date linger on your website. If there is content on your page highlighting an event that is already part of past history, your readers are going to abandon you quickly. The average online user values fresh content and attention to detail. Create a timeline for your updates, and clean up any old promotions or information that is not current.
Be aware of your background. Some sites have moving GIF backgrounds, which can be great at times, but can make your text difficult to read at other times. Choose a background which coordinates well with the message that you are trying to impart, it must blend in well with the balance of your website design.
Research your keywords. You do need to create great content, but it should be focused on bringing in new visitors. Proper keywords will make visitors want to stay longer.
You want to set up some way to let visitors give you feedback. This will let them communicate with you if they feel something is missing, or they do not understand what they see on your webpage, and you will be able to fix it. Allowing visitors to actively participate in your website will make them want to visit again.
When designing your site, use ALT tags when adding images. These tags are important for your website and people that disable graphics. Even if you use links for your images, the ALT tags will help to explain what the link does. Also, search engine crawlers use ALT tags, so your site is going to rank higher.
Make sure you have checked for links that could possibly be broken. Do this often, and especially before uploading any of it to the server. It’s necessary because many visitors will see that the information that they’re interested in is no longer available and if that occurs frequently on your site, they’ll leave. Give all of your links a double check before uploading in order to prevent this problem.
Skip the website counter that tells visitors what number they are. Visitors really don’t care how many other people have visited your site. As you can see, the counter can be counterproductive and you can use other tools in the back office or online to check visitor count.
Because coding is used in website design, many people feel it is probably very difficult to do. As you can see now, there isn’t that much to it. Use the tips above and you can design a great site.
