Does it take fancy programs and special knowledge to be a good web designer? The answer to that depends on how deep you want to dive into the field. If you’re lazy, you’ll be forced to utilize some type of third-party program or some other company to do this work for you. If you’re willing to put in a little work, however, you can read these tips and learn how to design an awesome website on your own!
Choose proper graphic for your web designs. Keep in mind that bitmaps don’t usually work well, while PNGs do. PNG is the right choice for non-photo images, such as text buttons and screen shots. If an image has in excess of 256 colors choose PNG. If it does not, GIF is another option. For photos, JPEG images work well.
Users can navigate easier when you use fixed-position navigation. By locking the menu to a fixed point on the screen, you can make sure it is constantly visible to the user regardless of where they scroll to on the screen. This is good for visitors, but also for internet marketing professionals, because it helps facilitate the desired action.
A business website should always be one that is easy to navigate. You should have links that are easy to find, as well as displayed well. Menus also make navigation more user-friendly. To help visitors find their way back, be sure to have a visible link to the main page on all your pages.
Whatever your design is like aesthetically, be sure all your files are small. This is because file sizes are directly correlated with load times. Maximizing the loading speed of your website is always better. There are still people who will be using your website that do not have a high-speed connection. Test your site to make sure that it loads up quickly, even when accessed on a dial up connection.
Make sure your load times are low. Those who visit your site have little in the way of patience so ensure your site is designed to load quickly. Reduce file sizes, graphics and fancy coding to bring your pages down to acceptable load times.
Always opt for fonts that area crisp and easy to read. The font is one of the first items people notice when coming to a site. Don’t use fancy fonts, such as Comic Sans since many computers don’t have them. If a person doesn’t have a font on their computer, the browser might render the site using the default font (generally Times New Roman). This often looks terrible.
Review your site for broken links regularly. You should do this before uploading something to your server. You need to check links frequently because visitors will click on your links. If many of your links are broken, visitors will give up on exploring your site. If you wish to prevent this from happening, you should regularly check your links.
Website counters near the bottom of the page are pretty unattractive. You might like the number going up, but your visitors don’t like it. Get rid of it and use other ways to see how many people have visited your site.
Try reading some advice online before designing that first site. Online research and expert information will teach you how to put together a quality website. If you don’t spend time learning, you’ll never get better.
To properly design and maintain your website, it is important to have your own office space. Avoid distractions, to make everything effectively work in your space. Set up your work space for optimum efficiency with everything you need right at your fingertips. This will make working on your website much easier.
To learn how to design a site is not like you are learning how to do open heart surgery. You don’t need school, and somebody else’s life isn’t dependent upon it. As long as you can follow the tips you have learned above, you can design a great website today.
